What is DA PA?

DA PA is the shared name for two Moz metrics that site owners and backlink buyers use to compare a site's link strength with its competitors. Domain Authority (DA) scores a whole domain and Page Authority (PA) scores a single page, both on a scale of 1-100. Both scores are based on the link index of Moz, the Seattle-based SEO software company, which predicts a site's likelihood of ranking with a machine learning model trained against real search results. Moz moved the score to this model with the Domain Authority 2.0 update in March 2019.

New domains start at 1 point and the score grows logarithmically: going from 20 to 30 is clearly easier than going from 70 to 80. Moz explains this as the nature of the scale, which is why the score is not an absolute grade but a comparison tool that only gains meaning next to competitors' scores.

How do you check DA PA?

The quickest way is to paste your list of addresses into a DA PA checker and get the results in one table. The tool on this page shows Moz, Majestic and Ahrefs data together and works in four steps:

  1. Enter one address per line in the box above; you can enter up to 3 sites per lookup and the https:// prefix is optional.
  2. Click Check: you get 15 lookups a day without an account, and the limit rises to 25 a day once you sign up.
  3. Read Moz DA, PA and Moz Rank side by side with Majestic CF, TF and Ahrefs DR, Rank and Traffic in the table.
  4. Download the CSV and archive it; checking the same list again a month later lets you read the trend.

DA PA checkers on the market pull their data from Moz's Link Explorer index via the API. Whichever tool you use, you are looking at the same source. Small score differences between tools come from the date the data was pulled.

When do you need a bulk DA PA check?

Bulk lookups save time on three tasks: filtering a list of backlink candidates, adding an authority table to a client report and tracking a set of competitors regularly. When a list of 30 publishers arrives for sponsored articles, checking the addresses in groups of three and merging the CSV files is the most practical way to score the whole list in one session. On the agency side, the same table fills the authority section of a monthly report with a single file.

Don't rely on the ready-made scores in vendor lists. Tables shared in link sales can be out of date; check the score again yourself on the day you buy, and weigh the price against traffic and content quality as well as DA. On the same budget, a DA 25 publication with steady organic traffic carries more link value than a site that shows DA 40 but has no visitors.

What is the difference between Page Authority and Domain Authority?

The difference is scope: DA looks at the whole domain, PA at a single URL. When you compare two internal pages competing for the same keyword, PA shows which page is ahead better than DA does; a blog post with strong internal links can have a higher PA than the homepage.

This has a practical consequence for backlink buyers: a sponsored article is published at a new URL, and that page's PA is naturally low in its first days. The value of the link is not set by the PA at the time of publication but by the DA that represents the site, the site's traffic and the internal links pointing to the article. Judging a placement as low quality because of the new page's low PA is a common mistake.

What is a good DA score?

There is no single right threshold: Moz does not define a "good" DA value in its official documentation and positions the score as a comparative metric rather than an absolute grade. A sound reading compares you with the average of 5-10 competitors in your own sector: a score of 45 is strong when competitors sit around 20 and weak when they sit around 70.

Even so, the link and publishing market in Türkiye works with an established set of bands that makes pricing easier:

  • 0-20: a new site or one with very few links; authority building has not started yet.
  • 20-40: a growing site; it can compete for long-tail keywords.
  • 40-60: an established site; a profile that can be visible for moderately competitive keywords.
  • Above 60: strong publications and brands; every point in this band takes long-term link building.

The bands shift by sector: national news outlets settle into the upper bands through a natural flow of links, while local service sites can compete in their own market with low scores. For a local clinic, a DA of 30 that beats its competitors gives enough visibility, while a national e-commerce project stays far from page one with the same score. Always build your comparison set from the sites you compete with in the same search results.

Is DA a Google ranking factor?

No. Moz states this clearly itself: DA is not a signal Google uses to determine rankings. On Google's side, John Mueller said in 2019 that they do not use domain authority, and he has given the same answer to the same question in the years since. Google's own link evaluation is based on the PageRank family, which works at page level; DA is an estimate made from the outside by a third party.

Not being a ranking factor does not make the metric useless. DA has become the common language for comparing link profiles quickly; in the sponsored article and backlink market, prices are largely set by DA band. That is why the metric has become a commercial standard: Google may not use it, but the market does.

What is the difference between Moz DA and Ahrefs DR?

Both scores measure link authority on a 0-100 scale, but they are produced by different companies from different indexes. Moz DA predicts the likelihood of ranking with a model trained against search results. Ahrefs' Domain Rating (DR), as defined in the Ahrefs documentation, measures only the strength of the backlink profile: the number of referring domains and those domains' own DR values count, traffic does not.

Don't be surprised to see DA 25 and DR 40 on the same site; the two crawlers find different links. Look at both scores together when you decide, and read the Majestic Trust Flow and Citation Flow values in the table too. A high CF with a very low TF points to a large but untrustworthy link profile. If there is a wide gap between the scores, the profile needs a manual review.

The other Ahrefs columns in the table serve the same decision. Ahrefs Rank shows a site's position in a global list ordered by backlink profile strength; the smaller the number, the stronger the profile. The Traffic column is Ahrefs' estimate of monthly organic visits, based on its own ranking data: it tells you whether authority is turning into real visitors.

What does spam score show?

Spam Score is a risk indicator from Moz, given as a percentage: it expresses how many features the checked site shares with sites that Google has penalized or removed from its index. Moz's model makes this comparison using 27 common signals found on penalized sites, and its help documentation splits the score into three bands: 1-30% low, 31-60% medium and 61-100% high risk.

Moz presents a high value as a measure of similarity, not as a verdict that "this site is spam"; the score is not conclusive. Still, when buying backlinks, treat anything above 30% as a warning threshold: links from a neighborhood with a high spam score build up risk in your profile even if the site's DA is high. Every spam score checker reads the same Moz data, so whichever tool you use, the result comes from the same source. Check your own site's score regularly too: unsolicited scraper and directory links pollute a profile over time, and a rising score is an early warning that a cleanup is needed.

A roadmap for DA PA

Start with measurement: check your own site and your main competitors in bulk and keep a CSV archive; decisions should come from the monthly trend, not a single score. The second step is cleanup: review links from sources with a high spam score and a weak TF; disavow only comes into play when there is a clear attack pattern.

The only input that raises the score for good is links with editorial value. On a new site in the 0-20 band, the first references usually come from sponsored articles on industry publications. Established sites above 40 need to analyze competitors' link profiles and build systematic access to the same sources; backlink packages turn this analysis and acquisition process into a monthly plan. Whatever band you are in, set your expectations by the logarithmic scale: climbing above 60 does not move at the pace of the lower bands.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions

Short answers on DA PA lookups, usage limits and how to read the scores.

For every address you enter, the tool gathers Moz, Majestic and Ahrefs data in a single lookup and combines nine metrics, including spam score, in one table row. You can type addresses without the protocol; the system extracts the domain itself. Results are listed on screen, and the CSV button downloads the same table as a file, which makes it easy to add to a report.
You get 15 free lookups a day without an account and 25 a day as a member, with up to 3 sites per lookup. Used lookups renew the next day. If you need more, buy a credit pack: credits kick in once your free daily lookups run out, let you check 50 sites at once and stay valid for 3 months. Your remaining lookups and credits are shown at the top right of the lookup card.
The difference usually comes from timing: scores move as Moz updates its index, and two tools may have pulled the data on different days. When comparing, checking every site on the same day with the same tool removes the drift. A shift of a few points is a natural result of an index update and is no cause for alarm on its own.
PA is calculated per page: a newly published URL, or one with few links, starts low regardless of the site's overall authority. Its value rises as external references and internal links build up. The first step to strengthening an important page's PA is linking to it from the menu and from related content.
One metric is not enough; read four data points together: consistency between Moz DA and Ahrefs DR, the Majestic TF/CF balance, organic traffic and spam score. Publications with high scores but near-zero traffic are the riskiest group on this list. The Ahrefs Traffic column in the table is a practical first filter for this screening.
No. The score can be manipulated: expired domains, redirect chains and link schemes can inflate DA artificially. Sites with no organic traffic, broken content or off-topic content despite a high score are typical warning signs. Browsing the site yourself before deciding reveals the signals the table misses.
Small fluctuations affect every site during index updates and need no action. For a clear drop, check two things: strong backlinks you have lost and new spam links entering your profile. For a lost link, contact the editor of the source site; in a large-scale attack, Google's disavow tool comes into play.
